Efforts on to trace youth missing in Chenab River: Police

JAMMU, June 22: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed efforts are underway to trace a youth who went missing in the Chenab River near Gharota area on June 19.
According to police, four youth from Chak Singa Thathi of Bhalwal tehsil went to take a bath in the Chenab River near Gharota on June 19.
Tragically, they said, two of them were swept away by strong water currents, while two others managed to return safety and informed their families about the incident.
Soon after receiving the information, a joint rescue operation was launched by the Police, NDRF and SDRF teams, they said.
“After two days of continuous search, the body of one of the missing youth, Deepak Kumar, son of Ashok Kumar, was recovered from the river on June 21,” a police official said.
“Meanwhile, efforts are still underway to trace the second missing youth, identified as Mohit Kumar (20) son of Banarasi Lal,” he said.
