JAMMU, Mar 4: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu enjoined upon the functionaries of various departments to chalk out effective strategies for maintaining the rates of essential commodities especially fruits and vegetables, LPG, sugar, milk and milk products etc in markets of Jammu province.
Shantmanu said this while chairing a meeting of officers of various departments here today.
The meeting was attended by DIG Jammu-Kathua, Shakeel Ahmed Beig, ADC Jammu, K.S. Parihar, Director Floriculture, K.K. Sharma, Joint Commissioner JMC, Kapil Sharma, Joint Director Agriculture (Ext), A.K. Malhotra, Deputy Director CAPD, Babu Ram, Assistant Director Drugs, Farida Parveen besides representatives of Consumers Welfare Association.
Threadbare discussions were held on issues pertaining to effective implementation of control on price rise of essential commodities. Divisional Commissioner asserted that market checking squads comprising of officers from CAPD, JMC, Legal Metrology and Police would be constituted for intensive check of market rates to curb black-marketing, hoarding and profiteering of essential commodities.
Shantmanu directed the officers to take strict action again violators of Essential Commodity Act and ask shopkeepers to display rate lists at prominent place of their establishment for convenience of consumers.
Divisional Commissioner assured the members of Consumer Welfare Association that the consumer problems pertaining price hike of essential commodities in different areas would be checked on priority and stern action would be taken against the violators.
