Educational institutions celebrate National Mathematics Day

JAMMU, Dec 22: To pay tributes to the world know Indian mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan on his 129th birth anniversary, various educational institutions celebrated National Mathematics Day.
Department of Mathematics, Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College, Canal Road organized three days mathematical activities to celebrate National Mathematics Day. Director School Education Jammu, Sumita Sethi, was the chief guest on the valedictory function today. Convenor of the Programme, Dr Sunil Gupta presented the 3 days report. Principal of the College, Dr Ajeet Angral presented the welcome address. Chief Guest in her address said that Science and Mathematics should be encouraged. Avinash Sharma of Government Higher Secondary School Gharota, Manpreet Kour of Government Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar bagged first and second prize respectively, whereas the third prize was shared by two students Reetika Regotra, Satyam Manhas of Government Higher Secondary Schools Mubarak Mandi and Pargwal. The consolation prizes were given to Harsh Dev Verma of Government Higher Secondary School Jourian and Sachin Kumar of Government Higher Secondary School Allah. For one day students Conference, Prashant Kumar of Government MAM College, Abhinav Salgotra of GGM Science College and Preeti Sharma of Government College for Women Parade Ground emerged winners. In quiz competition, Satvik and Nikhil of  GGM Science College, Jammu emerged first, whileas Akriti Gupta and Pushpa Devi of GCW, Udhampur claimed second position and Rajinder Sharma and Digvijay Singh  of GDC, Samba bagged third position.
Department of Mathematics of GCW, Gandhi Nagar organized Inter College Mathematics Fest to celebrate National Mathematics’ Day. On the occasion, extension lecture, seminar and poster making competitions were held. Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College was the chief guest whereas Prof BS Komal, Head, Applied Mathematics MIET and Former Head, Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu and Dr Chander Shekhar, Principal, GDC Kargil were the resource persons. Dr Anupama Gupta, Convenor of the event presented the welcome address. In poster making competition, Rahul Sharma from GDC Kathua clinched first prize whereas second and third prizes were bagged by Richu and Paras Anand of GCW, Parade and GCW, Gandhi Nagar respectively. In symposium, first prize was bagged by Sakshi Bhagat of GCW, Gandhi Nagar, whereas second and third prizes were secured by Abhinav R Salgotra and Prashant Kumar of GGM Science College and Government MAM College respectively.
Government Degree College Thanna Mandi celebrated National Mathematics Day by organizing a day-long seminar on Mathematics. Fifteen high and Higher Secondary Schools of Sub Division Thanna Mandi besides GDC Thanna Mandi participated in the seminar. Prof Mohammed Asger Ghazi, Dean Mathematical Sciences, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri was the chief guest, who delivered a detailed lecture on importance of mathematics. Principal of the College Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina presided over the function and made a power point presentation on life and contribution of Ramanujan. In the school category, Zahid Qayoom of GHSS Saaj bagged first position whereas second and third positions were bagged by Saima Khan of MET Higher Secondary School Thanna Mandi and Gulfraz Ahmed of GHS Manyal respectively. In the College category, Aina Kouser bagged first position whereas second and third positions were bagged by Azhar Javed and Kulsoom Akhter respectively.
Department of Mathematics, Government PG College Rajouri organized a function to celebrate National Mathematics Day. The students expressed their views on various topics. Dr Abdul Raouf, HoD, Mathematics delivered lecture on the various steps to be taken to popularize mathematics in schools and colleges. He also gave a power point presentation on Life and work of Late Ramanujan. Mohammad Altaf, Chief Education Officer, Rajouri who is also an eminent mathematician was the chief guest on this occasion. The programme was presided over by Principal of the college Prof Shabbir Hussain Shah. Prof AR Choudhary and Dr MB Magray, Ex-Principals were guests of honour. All the faculty member and large numbers of students attended the Programme. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Dr Bashir Ahmed, Staff Secretary.
Department of Mathematics, GCW Udhampur organized a symposium on “Mathematics and its Applications” to commemorate National Mathematics Day, in which students participated actively. On the occasion, Principal of the college Prof KS Koushal was the chief guest. The programme started with the welcome address by Dr Ashok Kumar, HoD Mathematics of the college. Dr Arun Kumar, HoD Chemistry, Prof Ashni Devi, HoD Botany, Dr Mool Raj, HoD Urdu, Dr Parveen Kumari, HoD Hindi and Dr Sulekha, HoD Music were also present.
Bhartiya Vidya Mandir High School, Udhampur celebrated National Mathematics Day. On the occasion, the chief guest was Ram Rattan Sharma, Retd DIET Principal, whileas Principal of the institution presided over the function. Various events were organized on the occasion including debate, painting competition and fair. Winners were awarded to boost their morale.
