JAMMU, Oct 26: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today said that the Government has tagged the education as priority sector and massive expansion during past years have taken education to doorsteps of people of far off areas.
The Minister was addressing a huge audience after inaugurating National Group Song Competition organized by Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) here at Regional Research Laboratory auditorium.
As many as eighteen teams from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi districts participated in the competition.
Founder Trustee Jammu Yatri Bhawan, Haridwar Ram Langer, President Chamber of Commerce Y V Sharma, National Secretary Samagra Gram Vikas and Central Observer Radhe Sham Mahajan besides other representatives of BVP were present on the occasion.
Listing the achievements of the Government, he said that education has been tagged as priority sector, adding that scores of new schools and colleges have been opened and upgraded to provide educational facilities at the doorsteps of far-flung areas of the State.
The Minister said that education should empower youth and imbibe in them virtues of humanity and the spirit to fight against the evils confronting the society today. He appealed the teacher fraternity to impart quality education to students in co-curricular activities so that they can compete at international level and bring laurels to the State.
Mr Bhalla appreciated the efforts of BVP in inculcating the spirit of patriotism among the youth and said that it has played vital role in promoting and preserving the composite culture and heritage of India.
He said aim of the BVP is to organise the elite and intellectual citizens and to motivate them to serve poor, disabled, illiterate and ignorant brethren not as an act of charity but in the true spirit of cultural tradition of service as duty.
Earlier, the students of various schools of Jammu region presented 10 Hindi and 3 Sanskrit items which were highly applauded by the audience.
