Education is backbone of nation: Dr Nirmal Singh

JAMMU, Mar 25: BJP Legislature Party Leader & Ex-Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today toured Billawar and his ancestral village Karanwada in Basohli to oversee various developmental works in the area. While inspecting the work on Middle School karanwada adopted by Dr. Nirmal Singh for development as Model School, he said that education is the backbone of a progressive nation like India and BJP government has given utmost importance to education sector.
Chief Education Officer, Kathua Balbir Singh, Judge(retd) Kuldeep Singh, BJP Mandal President Sham Singh, Sarpanch Surjeet Singh, Devinder Singh, Gian Chand and Prahlad Singh also accompanied him.
During his visit to Karanwada Dr. Nirmal Singh inspected the work progress of Middle School, Karanwada adopted by him for development as a Model School. Dr. Singh has assured Rs. 40 lakh for the development of the school infrastructure including building, library, books, computers etc. MP Shamsher Singh Manhas has already sanctioned Rs. 10 lakh out of MPLAD and work is in progress.
A large number of local delegations met former Deputy Chief Minister and listed their problems. He assured to look into the matter and take up the matter with local MLA and the administration. The people of Basohli and Billawar thanked him for his efforts in sanctioning of national Highway Dayalachak-Challan-Udhampur and Lakhanpur-Basohli via mahanpur.
He said that during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister for 10 months, Kathua district was put on top priority and various developmental projects including Atal Setu was commissioned, widening of Lakhanpur-Basohli road was started, Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway was sanctioned etc. He said that Billawar got more than Rs. 200 Cr developmental projects including nursing college, Rs. 47 cr worth bridge at Jathana, Indoor Stadium at Billawar etc.
Dr. Nirmal Singh said that prime focus is to provide basic amenities to the people of Billawar constituency and Blacktopping of roads in the town and other areas were taken at top priority at a cost of Rs. 630 lakh. He said under Integrated Housing Slum Development  Project, Rs. 30 lakh have been distributed among the beneficiaries of Billawar town. He said that the BJP led NDA government has embarked on a roadmap of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas and during its short span has launched major schemes like Beti Bachao, Beti Padao, Crop Insurance Scheme, Atal Pension Yojana besides major developmental initiatives.
He said that for development of infrastructure in education sector in Billawar constituency a sum of Rs. 5 crore has already been utilised.
