Edu institutions celebrate Women’s Day across Jammu

JAMMU, Mar 6: Various programmes were held across Jammu region today in connection with celebration of Women’s day.
Women’s Student Centre of GGM Science College, Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day with the special 2020 theme “Each for Equal’’.
On the occasion guest speaker, Garima Gupta, Advocate delivered a highly informative lecture on the topic Gender Equality: A legal perspective. She gave an overview of the progress of legislation in our country for the protection and empowerment of women.
Chief guest, Dr Koushal Smotra , Principal of the college impressed upon the students to treat women with respect. Dr Vandana Khajuria, convener Women’s Studies Centre spoke on the significance of the Women’s Day.
Women Development Cell (WDC) of GDC RS Pura in collaboration with J&K Girls Battalion NCC organised a poster making completion under the guidance of Principal of the College, Dr Sunit Sudan and under the supervision of Dr Rajni Bala, convener WDC to celebrate the International Women’s Day. About 20 college students participated in the completion held on the occasion.
The students made informative posters in relation of the theme of the women empowerment and their rights. The other members of WDC who were present on the occasion included Shaveta Chowdhary, Meesha Bhagat, Sukhwinder Kaur and Sheetal Devi.
A two day long programme was conducted in the Government MAM College to commemorate International Women’s Day. A slogan writing competition was held on March 5 wherein students showcased their creative and intellectual ideas in a mesmerizing and colourful display. Today a symposia comppetition on the theme “An Equal World is an Enabled World’’ was also conducted. The young learners’ expressed their ideas on the need of creating a gender Sensitised Society and an inclusive world where both the sexes are treated equally.
Prof. Dr G S Rakwal , Principal of the College was the chief guest on the occasion who exhorted the students to participate in such meaningful activities so that they can become the torch bearers of an equal society which respects every one , irrespective their caste, creed and gender.
Dr Jasvinder Singh, Prof Kuldeep Singh and Dr Reena Salaria adjudicated the slogan writing competition while Prof Meenakshi Thakur , Prof Deepti Gupta, Dr Indu Khajuria and Dr Eva Sharma were the jury members for the symposia competition. The event was coordinated by Dr Banpreet Kour , Associate Professor of the College.
GSCASH of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organised a one day workshop on “Gender Champions for Gender Sensitization and Equality”on 5th March to mark the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020.
At the outset, Dr. Kamni Pathania, convenor of the workshop and chairperson, GSCASH welcomed Prof. Anupama Vohra, and also highlighted the theme and importance of Women’s Day.
Prof. Vohra, Nodal Officer, Gender Champions, University of Jammu discussed the importance of Gender Champions in the University.
Dr. Isha Malhotra, Member GSCASH and co-convenor of the workshop conducted the programme. Dr. Yugal Khajuria, DOS, SMVDU also provided necessary support for the event.
School of Humanities and Liberal Arts celebrated International Women’s Day today by organizing a series of activities highlighting the theme of 2020 International Women Day: “Each for Equal”. The programme started with Seema Shekhar, Senior Additional Advocate J&K High Court who was the guest speaker, who spoke on women empowerment: Each for Equal.
This was followed by poster making and slogan writing on the themes of Women Equality, Women Empowerment, Education, Health, Safety and Security. The event was also attended by Dean Faculty of Arts, Dean Students Welfare, Subject Coordinators, faculty and students of the School.
Cultural Committee and NSS Unit of Government SPMR College of Commerce Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day. On this occasion, poster making event was organised in which many students of the college participated and expressed their views regarding the strength of women hood.
Prof R S Jamwal, Principal of the College congratulated on this day and applauded the performance of the students and praised them for their efforts. The other staff members present on the occasion were Prof Barbara Koul, Prof Savita Jamwal and Prof Lalit Gaind. The programme was coordinated by the members of Cultural Committee , Prof Rekha Gupta, Prof Anjana Chib and NSS programme officers Prof. Rajni Bala and Prof. Aphan Ali.
