LUCKNOW: The Enforcement Directorate(ED) has sought details of immovable and movable assets owned by gangster Vikas Dubey, who was killed in an encounter with STF in Kanpur on Friday.
The ED has sought details of the properties owned by Dubey, his family members and even his accomplices. Sources here on Saturday said that Dubey is suspected to own as many as 11 houses and 16 flats brought under benami transaction in UP.
The don is expected to have properties abroad as well since he visited 14 countries in the last three years. At present, 11 houses and 16 flats reportedly belonging to him are under scanner. This includes a recent bungalow worth Rs 23 crore he had purchased in Lucknow’s Aryanagar.
However, reports also says that Vikas’ aides had purchased penthouses in the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
In a communique to Kanpur police, the ED on July 6 had given orders to direct an officer to collect details on immovable and movable assets owned by the criminal, his family members and aides under provisions of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
The investigating agency has also asked for details on criminal cases against Dubey.
An intelligence official said it is suspected that Dubey was laundering money for some influential businessmen so his assets would be probed.
The gangster, who was facing 60 criminal charges, was nabbed in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, six days after he and his associates killed eight policemen and injured six in the Kanpur encounter.
The case was then handed over to the Uttar Pradesh STF after being produced before a UP court via video conference. He was then taken to Kanpur.
On Friday morning, the gangster was killed in an encounter, after the car ferrying him turned turtle as it reached Kanpur. As per Kanpur Police, the gangster attempted to flee and snatched the weapon of a policeman, after which he was shot dead in the retaliatory firing. (AGENCIES)
