Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 10: Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad today visited the Tawi Eco Herbal Park coming up near Maha Maya forests. Set up on 133 hectares of land, the Park is being developed under Compensatory Afforestation Managing and Planning Authority (CAMPA) to provide tourism facilities in the area. During his inspection, Mian Altaf directed the concerned forest officers to develop view points in the Park. He was told that an amount of Rs 1.60 crore has been released for the construction of the Park so far and out of proposed 1500 rft of path, 1300 rft path has been completed. It is proposed to develop the path on 4 kms of track, out of which 2 km has been completed so far. The Minister directed the concerned officers to develop the track upto Maha Maya Temple besides its face lifting be undertaken on top priority. The Minister also visited Bathandi Compartment No 4, Bahu range and Dingyal Forest Compartment No. 63 Sidhra and took stock of various CAMPA works. The Minister said that the steps taken up by the Government to curb encroachment of forest land have proved very fruitful and now no reports of forest encroachment have been received by the Forest Department. He directed the forest officers to focus on consolidation of works so that the works taken up could show impact on the ground. The Minister directed the officers to seek assistance of Forest Protection Force for starting fencing work over 2500 rft of forest land on forest Compartment No. 4 at Bathandi. Commissioner/Secretary, Forests, Ejaz Iqbal, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Vinod Ranjan, Chief Conservator of Forests, Ravi Kesar, Conservator of Forests, Jammu, Roshan, DFO Jammu, Sameer Bharti, and other senior officers of the Forest Department accompanied the Minister during his visit.
