Earthquake jolts parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A moderate earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale today jolted parts of Pakistan, including capital Islamabad, the third temblor to hit the northern region of the country since beginning of the year.

The United States Geological Survey reported it was 5.0 magnitude earthquake with its origin to the Jarm area of Afghanistan.

The tremor was also felt in Peshawar Malakand, Mansehra, Haripur, Swat, Dir and Abbottabad district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the northwest.

Geo TV reported that people came out of homes in panic but no loss was reported so far from any part of the country.

This is the third quake reported to hit the northern areas since beginning of 2016.

More than 300 people were killed in Pakistan and Afghanistan in 7.5 magnitude in October last year. (AGENCIES)
