Three years ago the Government approved a project by dint of which all proceedings of the State Legislative Assembly would be computerized and heavy paper work would be done away with. Computerization is now universally accepted as the new, more convenient and more efficient way of maintaining the office record. Way back in 2014, the Government sanctioned a sum of Rs. 3.57 crore for e-Assembly project and the contract for the same was given to National Informatics Centre (NIC), a prestigious organization of national repute.
Three years have gone by and the project has not been completed. It has met with roadblock. We understand that some differences on modalities have cropped up between the executing agency (NIC) and the Assembly Secretariat. These have not been resolved so far and computerization programme has been suspended. It is surprising that the Assembly is not able to disentangle the logjam and let computerization process begin as that would facilitate their job of asking questions and participating in debates on various issues in the Assembly sessions to considerable extent. We hope that the Speaker of the Assembly will find out a solution to the dispute with the NIC so that e-Assembly project is brought to completion.
