Sir,
In the words of Ibrahim Lincoln “ Democrcy is by the people, of the people and for the people”. This concept gave rise to political system and parties which finally represent the voice of the people in the democratic dispensation.
Of course different shades of people come forward and make a political party based on their ideologies and convictions.
If we take into account the world political scenario we find that in the west, major political parties revolve around issues for survival. We in the east though borrowed this lofty concept of democracy failed to borrow its spirit.
The political parties were survive more on political clan and personality cults than on issues and resultantly remain on the mercy of a particular person and its clan for survival.
That’s why in our subcontinent when father dies, son or daughter is immediately anointed ignoring the fact whether he or she has that very charisma, experience and merit.
Only by virtue of being son or daughter of a particular political personality, he or she gets imposed upon the partymen and the people. Even over those who may have toiled in building the party from scratch.
In recent past the anoinments of Bilawal Zardari Bhutto in Pakistan and Rahul Ghandi in India are stark examples to buttress my view point. Age of both these political parties outmarches much to the age of these novices in politics. But purely on acount of lineage got their political anoinments in these parties having many more political stalwarts as compared to them who are much more meritorious and experienced and have given their best to the party.
Time has shown that both these imposed political leaders have failed to put any tangible mark On the political spectrum, rather have brought the graph of the party down in their respective countries.
Fact remains that on the this touch stone BJP has shown a remarkable edge over other political parties which is devoid of any dynastic politics and even a common man who once happened to be a “” Chaiwala “” became the prime minister of the country. Rest they all revolve around father- son or father-daughter politics.
In our State too we have got two regional political parties and both are based on dynastic politics i.e Abdullah clan and Mufti clan.
If PDP has to show democratic canons in true spirit and to distinguish it from its arch political rival NC which ofcourse is deeply based on dynastic politics , then its high time for PDP to stop glamorising Mehbooba Mufti only and pave way for anoinment of any other stalwart of the party to lead the show. Such a lofty act wil not only strengthen the democratic values but will also encourage a common man to participate in politics and aspire to touch heights in political ladder which till date is taken as a mirage by him. Moreover, it will distinguish PDP from other political parties for following the democratic values in true spirit. It will certainly prove a boon for the party in the days to come.
Lets hope political sanity will perevail over PDP and usher in foundation of new democratic era in the state based on genuine participation of people, merit, capability, experience and political charisma rather than on already invogue trend of caste and clan.
Yours etc….
