JAMMU, Dec 13: Deputy Election Commissioner, Vinod Zutshi, today reviewed the election preparedness in four districts of the State with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, Umang Narula, concerned District Election Officers (DEOs), SSPs and Election Observers through video conferencing.
The four districts which are going to poll in the fourth phase of Assembly election tomorrow include Samba, Anantnag, Shopian and Srinagar.
During hour long video conferencing with the concerned officers on the election arrangements, Mr. Zutshi called for adequate security steps for the safety of people. He said security of the people is of paramount importance and all necessary steps need to be put in place in all these districts. He stressed the need for a well thought out strategy to ensure free, fair and transparent poll.
The Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) called for special steps in the vulnerable areas where there is apprehension of disturbance. Civil and police administration must work with close coordination to ensure conducive atmosphere around the polling stations, adding that adequate number of security personnel be deployed to restore the confidence of electors so that they can cast their votes without any threat and fear. He called for necessary contingency plans to meet any kind of exigencies to ensure smooth polling.
Expressing satisfaction on the previous three phases, Mr. Zutshi said that voting percentage in all the districts was very encouraging and it is hoped that the same enthusiasm will be maintained by the electors during the fourth phase. He also lauded the efforts of the State machinery for conducting incident-free elections in the State. He called for maintaining the same spirit during the next two phases to make the current elections historic ones, Mr. Zutshi added.
Mr. Narula, DEOs/SSPs and Election Observers of the concerned districts briefed the DEC about the measures taken for ensuring free and fair elections in the fourth phase. It was informed that the administration has mobilized its resources as per the requirements.
Deputy Chief Electoral Officers, Rakesh Kumar Srangal, Rashpal Singh and Election Consultant, S. Harcharan Singh were also present during the Video Conference.
