JAMMU, July 14: Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh has asked the people to come forward and play a participatory role in ensuring success of various schemes and initiatives launched by the Government for ensuring sustained development of the State.
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a huge gathering at Katra after launching the Swach Bharat Mission Abhiyan there.
MLA, Reasi , Ajay Nanda, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Sushma Chauhan, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board A.K Sahu, SSP Reasi and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
Dr Singh said the Government is committed to bring Katra town as one of the models of the country and it would be brought under AMRUT Scheme which would ensure its development on modern lines having all the State of art facilities of sanitation, power, connectivity etc. He said the town plays an important and vital role in the pilgrim tourism of the state and crores of pilgrims come to pay obeisance to shrine of Mata Vaishnov Devi located there.
The Deputy Chief Minister also announced Rs 1.00 crore to the Municipal Committee, Katra for upgrading the sanitation facilities of the town and directed for speeding up other related developmental activities being undertaken in the town. He said the people living in the town should also contribute their bit in ensuring proper cleanliness so that the pilgrims get a good feel about it.
Referring to the solid waste management in the State, the Deputy Chief Minister said that a comprehensive project would be undertaken soon and in this regard the necessary steps stand taken.
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan drive was personally launched by the Deputy Chief Minister from Main Bazar Katra Ban Ganga Road in which various other dignitaries also participated.
