DyCM admits funds under Central scheme remain unspent

JAMMU, Mar 30: Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand today admitted on the floor of the Legislative Assembly that huge funds released by the Union Government under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) remained unspent.
Responding to the queries of the MLAs during the Question Hour, Deputy Chief Minister said, “huge funds remained unutilized as a result State could not furnish Utilization Certificates to the Central Government”.
“Government will involve MLAs and block level committees will be constituted to overcome the shortcomings in the utilization of funds”, he added.
Earlier, National Panthers Party MLA from Ramnagar, Harshdev Singh said, “it is pity that no building for the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas has come up ever since the launch of the scheme in the State”, adding “even under SSA targets for upgradation of schools has not been met by the School Education Department”.
Former Minister and National Conference MLA, Javed Dar also raised the similar issue while as Jagdish Sapolia raised the issue of non-payment of salaries to the SSA teachers.
