POONCH, May 20: The Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir today expressed concern over the shoddy state of Urdu language in the Poonch district and urged the education authorities to take necessary corrective measures towards its promotion.
Accompanied by the District Development Commissioner, M H Malik, Chief Education Officer, Ch. Lal Hussain and other officers of Education Department, the Deputy Chairman interacted with the faculty of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Poonch.
“It is high time that we all analyze the root cause that hinders the promotion of Urdu language and take corrective measures”, said the Deputy Chairman. He highlighted the importance of promoting Urdu language and called for grass root-level action if the language is to survive and flourish.
Mir also took stock of the requirements of infrastructure, staff strength besides other requirements of the school and asked the Chief Educational Officer and Principal to start working in the direction to make the historic institution a Model Higher Secondary School in the district.
Established in 1935 as Victoria High School, the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Poonch is being upgraded as a model school in the district. Mir also assured adequate funds out of his CDF for establishing smart classes and asked the Principal to project estimates of funds for computers.
Underlining education as the only tool to rid the society of varied evils, the Deputy Chairman said to improve the quality of education in Government schools, required infrastructure, latest teaching methodologies, effective use of technology, moral education and optimal teacher-student ratio has to be maintained.
