JAMMU, Dec 9: Commi-ssioner Secretary, Forests, Environment and Ecology Department, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, today reviewed preparations for the proposed Workshop-cum-Exhibition to be held in Jammu and Kashmir under the ambitious Bamboo Mission.
The meeting had elaborate discussion on several aspects regarding effective implementation of this unique mission in J&K like finalization of role and responsibilities of all stake holders in the proposed programme which has the sole aim of giving a huge fillip to promotion of Bamboo cultivation in the region.
The two day Workshop-cum-Exhibition has been proposed to be held on December 19-20, 2019 at Convention Centre, Jammu.
Dwivedi, while deliberating upon the broad contours of the mission, informed that bamboo harvesting and transportation from non forest areas in now exempted from the purview of Indian Forest Act enabling the farmers and rural poor people to promote bamboo cultivation and its hassle-free transportation to increase their income.
He said that workshop would cover the areas and activities under the Nursery, Plantation and Management, Diversity of Bamboo products, Bamboo Treatment and Preservation, Primary Bamboo Processing at village level, Entrepreneurship in Bamboo Sector etc.
Among others, Regional Director Social Forestry Department Jammu, Mohinder Kumar Gupta; Director Handicraft, Inderjeet; Director Planning, Forest Department, Parvaiz Ahmed Handoo; Joint Director, Industries and Commerce, Ved Parkash; Executive Officer KVIB JK, Dr Sandeep Kotwal and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
