SRINAGAR, Dec 27: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said the urban poor and slum dwellers of Srinagar city would soon be provided with individual as well as cluster dwelling units under the Centrally sponsored schemes of Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana (RGAY) and Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) and in this regard the necessary process has been initiated by the concerned departments.
The Minister was speaking in a review meeting convened to discuss the status of various schemes undertaken by the State and the Centre for providing the dwelling units to the urban poor and slum dwellers of the urban areas of the State.
The Minister for Housing and Cultural, Raman Bhalla, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr. G.N. Qasba, Managing Director J&K Housing Board, Ram Paul and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
Mr. Sagar directed the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to identify a piece of land so that the construction of the dwelling units for the beneficiaries under the schemes can be started at an earliest. He said that the officers should work in a coordinated manner so that the benefit of these schemes reaches to the poor and needy sections of the society.
Mr. Sagar said that the Government is committed to provide the quality amenities of life to the every section of the society and in this regard several welfare schemes have been launched besides clear instructions have been given to the implementing agencies to ensure that the benefit of these reaches the targeted populace.
Mr. Bhalla assured the meeting that a colony would be set up in Srinagar for the urban poor which would be having all the adequate facilities so that these people can be adequately compensated.
The meeting was told that about 18,000 poor and under privileged families living in various areas of Srinagar city have been identified and would get benefited from these schemes. The Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation was directed to speed up the process of the identification of the genuine persons who can avail the benefit under these schemes.
Mr. Sagar later chaired a high level meeting about the status of the work being done on prestigious Syed Meerak Shah Road, which was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Chief Town Planner, Kashmir, Superintending Engineer R&B and other officers.
The Minister directed the officers to speed up the pace of the work on this prestigious road project which would go a long way in ensuring better traffic mobility in the old city Srinagar. He said that all the acquisition cases should be settled on priority basis so that the persons whose property has been acquired.
