JAMMU, June 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cracked the recent chain snatching case in Durga Nagar, recovering a gold chain worth lakhs and arresting two accused involved in the crime.
The incident took place on June 4 when two helmet-wearing men on a scooty snatched a gold chain from a woman waiting near a school bus stop.

The accused brandished a sharp-edged weapon to threaten the victim before fleeing.
A police official said in order to avoid detection, they had removed the scooty’s number plate. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Janipur, he said.
Following the incident, he said, SP Rural Jammu, Brijesh Sharma formed a dedicated investigation team under the supervision of SDPO Domana, SHO Domana, and In-Charge Police Post Chinore.
“The team scanned over 300 CCTV cameras and used technical analysis to identify the accused,” he said.
Accordingly, the police official said, accused Ajit Sharma of Disco Road, Janipur, and Sahil Khan of Kamini Market, Nagrota, were arrested.
A stolen scooty used in the incident and an auto-rickshaw were seized from their possession, along with the weapon used in the crime, he said, adding that the snatched gold chain was also recovered.
“The swift arrests and recovery are a result of focused investigation and teamwork. We remain committed to curbing street crimes and ensuring public safety,” SP Rural Jammu, Brijesh Sharma told media persons at post Chinore area. Police clarified that the accused were taken for recovery and other legal formalities as per procedure.
