LEH, June 2: To show their resentment towards State Government over the sudden transfer of Tangtse Higher Secondary School Principal, hundreds of Durbuk residents lead by Durbuk Block Education Committee Chairman Dorjay Stanzin assembled at Changla Top (the world second highest motorable road) yesterday.
Eight Nambardars from Shayok to Chushul, Tangtse Councillor Tashi Namgyal and Chushul Councillor Stanzin Konchok also joined the protest. Raising slogans against the J&K Commissioner Secretary Education, the agitated residents blocked the traffic movement towards Pangong Lake for hours causing great inconveniences to the tourists travelling to Pangong and Leh. The traffic movement remained halted from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm with nearly 150 vehicles moving towards Leh stranded for hours at Durbuk.
The resident alleged that Commissioner Secretary issued transfer order directly and District Administration was unaware of the transfer order. Chushul Councillor Stanzin Konchok said that an officiating Principal has been running the schools for past two years but when Soso was appointed as new Principal nearly 7 months back, the resident had high hopes for overall improvement of the school but sudden transfer of the Principal has annoyed the residents forcing them to come out on streets. He added that on 29th May the resident approached SDM Durbuk office but nothing happened so they decided to block the traffic to express their resentment.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Moses Kunzang rushed to Changla Top to pacify the agitated residents. The residents called off their strike with the assurance from Administration that new Principal will be appointed in two days time. The residents said that if the same Principal is not retained they would again block the traffic.
The residents also approached Ladakh Affair & Cooperative Minister Chering Dorjay and Hill Council Chairman Dr Sonam Dawa who reportedly assured them to appoint new Principal within two days time.
