JAMMU, Dec 22: Duggar Manch today celebrated Dogra Mananta Divas by organizing a function at K L Sehgal Hall in Abhinav Theatre complex.
On the occasion, speakers threw light on importance of the day- December 22, when Dogri language was included in 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution. They also paid their rich tributes to veteran poet and play writer late Parvin Kesar who breathed his last on December 22, 2009. A poetic symposium was also organized during the programme. Prominent writer Narsing Dev Jamwal presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Duggar Manch and noted writer Mohan Singh threw light on importance of the day when Dogri language was included in 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution after a great struggle. He stressed that the day should be celebrated as national festival like Republic Day or Independence Day by all the Dogras irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
Mr Singh also lamented that despite inclusion of Dogri in the 8th Schedule, the Government was still not serious for promotion of the language. He demanded that Dogri should be introduced at the primary level in all the schools with immediate effect. He also demanded opening of a Dogri Department in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Central University, extensions campuses of Jammu University and filling of all vacant posts of teachers in Dogri.
Others who spoke on the occasion, included Darshan Darshi, Dhian Singh, Prakash Premi, Shiv Dev Sushil, Neelam Verma, Bishan Singh Dardi, Sita Ram Spolia, Vijay Sharma, Khajur Singh Thakur, Sunita Bhadwal, Chanchal Bhasin, Dr Sushma Rani, Kuldeep Dogra, Dr Sarita Khajuria, Daya Ram Daya, Dr Neelam Sareen, Paviter Singh Slathia, Sushil Begana, Usha Kiran, Kuldeep Kipi and Gianeshwar Sharma.
