JAMMU, Apr 21: Former Minister and president Dogra Sadar Sabha Gulchain Singh Charak has alleged that there seems to be a deep rooted conspiracy of destroying the cultural heritage of Jammu by shifting precious items from Jammu to Kala Kendra Srinagar.
Addressing a press conference along with members of Executive Committee of the Sabha here today Mr Charak thanked the general public and various social and cultural organizations for their active participation and cooperation in various programmes conducted by the Dogra Sadar Sabha in collaboration with the Tourism Department.
He also stated that since Dogra Sadar Sabha observes “Save the Birds Day” every year for saving the birds from dying of thirst by providing water to these birds, by hanging the clay pots full of water in & outside the houses and other suitable places, this year it has been decided that “Save the Birds Day” and “Water Conservation Day” shall be observed on May 7. He also disclosed that since the water bodies are being destroyed, water flowing through Nallahs, rivers etc. is being wasted and there is every likelihood that there may be water crises in near future, accordingly it is decided that May 7 shall also be observed as “Water Conservation Day”. He said the Sabha felt the need of reviving the old water bodies for the conservation of water particularly in Kandi areas so that ground water is recharged for public use.
He further said that a slogan writing competition shall be organized by the Sabha on April 30 wherein, entries for attractive slogan writing about “Water Conservation and Save the Birds Day” shall be invited and three cash prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.
Mr Charak showing his serious concern about the decision of the Govt to shift the precious artifacts, manuscripts and paintings etc to Srinagar from Kala-Kender Jammu thereby depriving the Jammu province of its rich heritage, warned the concerned authorities to desist from such attempts as these attempts are very dangerous and fraught with serious consequences. He also appealed to the well meaning people of the Jammu region to be vigilant against such type of deep rooted conspiracy to destroy the cultural heritage of Dugger Pradesh & thwart the evil designs of such anti-Jammu forces at all costs.
Dr NK Dogra, Col Karan Singh Jamwal, Prem Sagar Gupta, Ghulam Ahmed Khawaja, Brig (Retd) M S Jamwal, Chhatter Singh and Janak Khajuria were also present.
