JAMMU, May 31: Alleging that Dogra heritage in the State is being spoiled without proper conservation, restoration and care, so much so, that even the “Dewan-e-Aam” of Mubarak Mandi Complex has been demolished, Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) demanded that the Government should come out with a white paper for the delay in conservation and restoration of heritage buildings of Mubarak Mandi, Bahu Fort and other historical monuments.
The issue was raised in a meeting of Central Working Committee of the Sabha held today at Dogra Sadar Sabha Bhawan under the chairmanship of Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister and president, DSS. Among others, the meeting was attended by Dr NK Dogra, vice president, Prem Sagar Gupta, general secretary, Gambhir Dev Singh, in-charge, Youth Wing and Hazi Nisar Khan, former Minister.
The meeting said that Jammu is being neglected by the successive Governments as even the status of certain projects like Gandola, Tawi Artificial Lake and AIIMS are uncertain. Expressing concern over the ban on issuing of Dogra Certificate, the participants said that the ban has adversely affected the recruitment of “Dogras” of Jammu region in Paramilitary forces where they used to get some concession in height and weight on showing Dogra Certificate.
The Sabha members also reiterated their demand of doing away with the useless and wasteful practice of “Secretariat Move” and demanded the Government to ensure proper functioning of the Civil Secretariat at Jammu to save the Jammuites from numerous problems.
All the members condemned the discriminatory attitude of the Government with the farmers of the Jammu region who they said have nothing left for their livelihood because of the total loss of their crops in recent rains and non-payment of the relief.
It was also decided that the “Save the Birds Day” programme – an annual feature of Dogra Sadar Sabha will be celebrated this year by the Sabha in collaboration with Wild Life Protection Department, J&K on 2nd June at 10 am at Sabha Bhawan.
Lastly, appreciating the struggle started by the Social and Traders Organization Coordination Committee under the chairmanship of Bar Association Jammu for AIIMS, the Sabha extended its full support to them.
