DSEJ organizes orientation programme for CEOs, DIET Principals

JAMMU, Feb 17: Counselling Cell in the Directorate of School Education Jammu, in collaboration with Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, organized one day orientation programme for Chief Education Officers (CEOs), Principals DIET and in charge Counselling Cells at DIETs regarding extension of counselling services to schools of Jammu province.
Prof Arti Bakshi, Head, Deptt. of Psychology, JU; Dr Pallavi Sachdeva, Assistant Professor, DLL JU; Dr Kavita Suri, HOD DLL JU; Romesh Kumar Sharma, Head, Counselling Cell, DSEJ; . Shambhavi Deval, Clinical Psychologist, Child Development Centre, Jammu acted as resource persons.
The programme was attended by Anuradha Gupta, Director School Education Jammu, Shokat Mahmood Malik, Joint Director Jammu- Samba -Kathua; Sanjay K Bhat, Personnel officer, Directorate of School Education Jammu; CEOs , Principals DIETs and incharge counselling cells from all the DIETs.
DSEJ Anuradha Gupta impressed upon all the district officers to facilitate, co-ordinate and regularly monitor the counselling initiatives. She suggested equipping the upcoming Psychology laboratories at DIETs with professional counselling material and developing them as model counselling resource rooms. She stressed upon focussing more on quality than quantity of initiatives.
Dr Pallavi Sachdeva spoke about the relevance of the programme which is directed towards the importance of mental health and emotional well-being among schools children. Prof Arti Bakhshi spoke about how mental health services in schools can play significantly important role in improving the physical, emotional, social and psychological well-being of students and schools. Dr Kavita Suri assured all cooperation from DLL in extending career counseling, gender sensitization activities in the far flung areas.
Romesh Sharma, Head, Counselling Cell, DSEJ, spoke about the rationale and importance of counselling initiatives in present context. He also gave a detailed presentation on roadmap for institutionalizing and professionalizing counselling services in schools of Jammu Division.
Shambhavi Deval, Clinical Psychologist, CDC Jammu, spoke about the emotional well-being of children and she especially focussed on the clinically proved strategies which are required in school for the wellness among children and creating healthy teaching learning balance.
Sanjay K Bhat, Personnel Officer DSEJ, presented welcome address. Alka Sharma, Shweta Sharma, Shanti Saroop, all Teacher Counsellors and Mulkh Raj, Technical officer, DLL JU supported the successful conduct of the programme.
