DSEJ for zero tolerance to child abuse

JAMMU, July 25: Director School Education Jammu, Rakesh Kumar Srangal has issued directions to subordinate officers to counsel students who are in need of help and show zero tolerance to child abuse besides ensuring complete ban on corporal punishment in schools.
While addressing a meeting,  Mr Srangal stated that directions in this regard have already been issued to respective CEOs of all the districts of Jammu division and other subordinate officers,  including schools to get emergency numbers notified  permanently in every schools on the notice board as well as display boards on  school wall as per NCPCR guidelines so that every sort of counselling and  professional help is provided to the needy children who are facing any sort of  maltreatment / abuse.
He further stated that besides number of PCR(100) and  helpline number of childline India foundation (1098), the important numbers of child welfare committees, number of nodal officers nominated for child protection in schools and counselling helpline number ( 9419210200) at Directorate level be notified in all the schools so that every sort of help is provided to the needy.
The Director called upon head of the institutions to notify the definition of corporal punishment and various forms of child abuses in order to create awareness about child rights so that no child suffers in silence and ignorance. He stressed for holding several awareness programmes in order to build a healthy teacher- pupil relationship.
It is in place to mention here that Directorate of School Education Jammu has taken several initiatives and teams are being deputed to various schools in order to create awareness and sensitize the school children as well as teachers about various child issues including sexual harassment, child abuse, good touch- bad ouch, drug addiction and several social issues so that no lacunae is left for the overall personality development of child.
