MENDHAR, July 18: A sentry of the Defence Security Corps (DSC) allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle here today, a police official said.
Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Salani area of Mendhar and an ex-soldier of the 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regiment, had joined the DSC after his retirement from the active service.
Currently, he was posted in the Mendhar area of the district, official said.
He killed himself inside the camp in the morning here, official said, adding the motive behind his taking such an extreme step was not known immediately.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Mendhar and investigation started.
