SRINAGAR, June 27: The district administration of Ganderbal has announced a ban on the use of drones in the district, effective until the conclusion of the Annual Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to commence in July while the Government departments have been asked to inform police before any activity using drones.
The Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal issued directives stating that the restrictions were implemented in response to recent incidents of drone misuse that posed a threat to security. The administration emphasized that terrorists and anti-national elements might attempt to target locations using drones and other flying objects, necessitating the imposition of reasonable restrictions.
As per the order issued, to ensure the safety of vital installations and densely populated areas, the use of drones has been suspended during all social and cultural gatherings to minimize the risks of injury and property damage.
Considering the security situation and concerns related to privacy, nuisance, and trespassing, the district administration has issued a ban on drone usage within the territorial jurisdiction of District Ganderbal. This ban will be in effect until the conclusion of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage, as stated in the order.
Government departments and authorized agencies engaged in activities such as mapping, surveys, surveillance, agriculture, environment conservation, and disaster mitigation using drones have been instructed to inform the local police station before undertaking any such operations in the public interest.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal, has been directed to ensure compliance with the outlined restrictions in the communication.
