Driver killed, associate injured as tanker plunges into gorge

RAMBAN, Jan 19: A driver was killed, while his associate was injured when the tanker they were travelling in, skidded off the road and plunged into deep gorge near Rattanbas area on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK02BK-4125 was on its way to Jammu from Srinagar, when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve, resulting the vehicle plunged into deep gorge near Rattanbas, causing on the spot death of the driver and injuries to his associate.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and with the help of locals rescued the injured person.
The injured person was rushed to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where he was undergoing treatment, when last reports poured in.
The body of the deceased identified as Lekh Raj, son of Pritam Chand of Gandala district Udhampur has been handed over to family members after completing legal formalities.
The injured has been identified as Pritam Lal, son of Babu Ram, a resident of district Udhampur.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation started.
