KISHTWAR, May 3: Going tough against timber smugglers, Forest officials here today foiled a timber smuggling bid and seized a truck which was illegally carrying 97 scants of Deodar and Kail in Bhandarkoot area of Kishtwar.
Sharing details in this regard DFO Marwah, Vishal Chowdhary said: “On a specific tip a team of Marwah Forest Division established a Naka (checking point) at Bhandarkoot area in Kishtwar and early in the morning they intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK12A-1461.”
He said that during checking of the vehicle it was found carrying around 97 sleepers of Deodar and Kail.
“The truck was seized on the spot and the driver was interrogated but he failed to produce any authentic document regarding the timber load,” the DFO maintained.
Sources said that the driver was arrested and an FIR was registered in this regard at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation started.
