Driver, cleaner hurt as truck loaded with LPG cylinders falls into gorge

RAJOURI, Apr 6: A truck driver and cleaner were injured when a truck loaded with LPG cylinders fell into a gorge in Manjakote area of district Rajouri today.
Reports said the mishap took place when the ill-fated truck bearing registration number JK02AJ/ 2527 was on way to Poonch from Jammu. It was loaded with LPG cylinders of Hindustan Petroleum company. At around 10.30 am, at Niyali in Manjakote area, the vehicle which was moving on uphill road went out of control. The driver tried to control and apply heavy gear but it started moving backward.
Sensing trouble, the helper jumped out of the vehicle and there after the driver also jumped and the truck rolled down into nearly 150 feet deep gorge. The driver and his helper sustained minor injuries and were removed to Manjakote hospital and provided first-aid.
The police party led by SHO Manjakote Manzoor Kohli also reached the spot. The police deployed some cops at the site so that LPG cylinders do not get stolen. The vehicle was extensively damaged in mishap. The cylinders were then shifted to another truck which came from Rajouri.
The police said that over loading could be the apparent reason behind the accident but the driver was claiming that it was due to some mechanical failure as truck’s gear was not properly working. The injured were identified as Ajay Kumar (driver), son of Bhola Ram and helper Saroop Kumar, both residents of Treru in Kalakote. The police has registered a case in this connection. It said both sustained minor injuries and were safe.
