JAMMU, Dec 13: Police arrested a driver and his associate for smuggling bovines to Valley from Suketar area, falling under the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli police station.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Jhajjar Kotli police station laid a naka near Suketar area of Domail and signaled a Srinagar bound Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK18A-0292 to stop for checking.
On seeing police team, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police rescued 5 bovine animals from the vehicle and arrested the driver and his associate.
The accused have been identified as Shakeel Ahmed Lone (driver), son of Mushtaq Ahmed Lone and his associate Riyaz Ahmed Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid, both residents of Qazigund, Srinagar.
They were trying to smuggle the bovines to Valley from Jammu, but police foiled their bid, by rescuing the cattle from the vehicle.
A case under FIR Number 142/15 under Section 188 RPC 3/5 PCA Act has been registered at police station Jhajjar Kotli and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Jhajjar Kotli police station Inspector Ravinder Singh made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma, SP Rural Rajeev Pandey and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
