Drive against traffic violators launched in Gulmarg

SRINAGAR, Apr 18: The administration today launched a crackdown on traffic violators at the famous ski destination of Gulmarg to curb the menace of recurring traffic jams.
A statement from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gulmarg said a joint team of officers, led by CEO Gulmarg Waseem Raja and accompanied by the Tehsildar of Gulmarg, officers of the Motor Vehicle Department, Traffic Department, Police, and municipality, launched an enforcement drive in Gulmarg to address the problems of traffic jams, wrong parking, and to ensure the hassle-free flow of traffic for the convenience of tourists.
“The enforcement drive was carried out to encourage active engagement from the community, including pedestrians and public transport users, in promoting a culture of responsibility and adherence to traffic laws,” the statement said.
The statement added that during the drive, the team checked hundreds of vehicles and also imposed fines of Rs 35,000 on many offenders for wrong parking and other traffic violations. “The enforcement drive was part of measures aimed at addressing issues such as illegal parking, traffic flow management, and pedestrian safety enhancements. In the upcoming days, such drives will be conducted twice a week to curb the menace of wrong parking and other traffic violations,” the statement said.
