Drama Fest: Punjabi Play ‘Pagal Lok’ staged by Manoranjan Kala Kendra

JAMMU, Dec 9: On the third day of ongoing Annual Drama festival, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages, Manoranjan Kala Kendra presented Kapoor Singh Ghumman’s Punjabi play ‘Pagal Lok’ at the Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Directed by T. S. Premee, the play revolves around patients in a mental hospital. The patients include a writer, unsuccessful film actress, a Government servant, a publisher, defeated politician and unemployed young man, who have been wrongfully admitted by unscrupulous Doctor Bagla in lieu of  money.
In course of events which also includes a love story, Doctor Bagla’s studious son having failed in examination, the cleaning women, who has won a lottery, the publisher whose daughter wants to marry the writer and the lady doctor -all loose their mental balance. When Doctor Bagla’s son commits suicide, he also becomes mad.
The comic play full of off-hand two liners that highlighted the maladies prevalent in the society was appreciated by the audience. The cast, a combination of senior actors and greenhorns did manage to carry the play.
The cast of the play included Tejinder Singh Premee as Likhari Yog Raj, Chandani as Naika, Ajay Sharma as Babu Shahid Anwar, Pt. Makhan Lal Shashtri as Neta Wazir Chand, Rohit Manhas as Surjit, the Vidyarathi, Dr. Rajinder Thappa as  Shabdanand, the Prakashak, Anu Kumari as Cleaning Women Chinto, Shilpa Rattan as Nurse, Mukesh Sharma as Doctor Bagla,  Sumiksha Sharma as Doctor Hemla, Amit Dabgotra as Sewadas, Mandeep Singh Chib as Vakeel, Kanchan Sharma as Premika and Mousami Thakyal as Satya Mutiyaar.
Tomorrow Bhoorang Foundation will present ‘Ram’, a play in Kashmiri written and directed by   Makhan Lal Saraf.
