Draft separate package for each category of DPs: JKSAC to Govt

JAMMU, July 3: Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) today stressed the Government to evolve a fair criteria for drafting the package separately for each category of Displaced Persons (DPs) or refugees instead of applying the same yardstick to each category.
While expressing his views, Gurudev Singh, president, JKSAC, said DPs of 1947 from PoK have a unique case and have absolutely no similarity with other categories of DPs, who either suffered no loss or very negligible and insignificant material or physical loss, as they were got displaced by Indian Government particularly under Shimla and other agreements. Therefore, it is unjustified to apply the same yardstick for all categories as existing Rs 7000 crore package is highly discriminatory, illogical, so far as DPs of 1947 from PoK are concerned.
The proposed Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh in Rs 7000 crore package for rural and urban categories of DPs of 1947 from PoK is certainly not in commensuration with the material and physical loss each DP family has suffered during the horrifying turmoil of 1947.
He said I am surprised that Kashmiri Migrants, who left their homes simply just out of anticipated fear and adverse social conditions, and suffered very negligible physical and material loss, are being doled out lavishly with revived packages and other concessions, while those who sacrificed more than 50,000 of their kith and kin of all ages and suffered material loss of millions and millions of rupees, are being ignored.
Singh demanded Rs 30 lakh for DPs of 1947 from PoK and employment packages and reservations as agreed by Revenue Minister, Ajaz Ahmed Khan in a meeting held on November 27, 2013, adding that leaders of DPs must be taken into confidence before sending the draft package to the cabinet for its approval and onward journey to Delhi.
