Srinagar, Aug 2: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Dr Haseeb Drabu has stressed the need for devising a holistic and futuristic plan of action for the overall development of district Pulwama to do away with the past injustices with the district.
Interacting with a delegation of prominent citizens from the area who called on him here today, Dr Drabu said despite being declared a district headquarters in seventies, Pulwama continues to face colossal infrastructure deficit in almost all the crucial sectors including road communication, education, health, drinking water supply, horticulture and tourism resulting in sluggish economic growth and swelling unemployment.
He said despite having a flourishing horticulture sector, there has been almost negligent focus on this crucial sector in the district and the State plan as the outdated revenue records continue to show the area predominantly growing maize and paddy. “Nobody seems to have ever bothered to get the revenue records updated so that the area could have benefitted from various schemes aimed at promotion of horticulture sector,” he said.
Drabu, who is PDP candidate for Rajpora constituency, said except for various initiatives like establishment of Islamic University at Awantipora, setting up of fruit mandis and a Degree College for Women at Pulwama and upgradation of various educational and health institutions during Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led PDP-led Government, the district has remained mostly neglected during the successive NC regimes.
