JAMMU, Aug 23: Dr. Rachna Sabharwal (Professor) was today appointed as the new Head of Biochemistry Department (HoD) of Government Medical College, Jammu.
Dr. Rachna took the charge from Dr. A.S. Bhatia(Principal GMC, Rajouri) who held the charge as HoD, Biochemistry in presence of Dr. Ashutosh Gupta Principal GMC, Jammu.
Dr. Rachna is an alumnus of GMC, Jammu where she joined MBBS in the batch of 1989 as one of the highest rankers in J&K and since then she has been striving for excellence. Dr. Rachna has done her MD in Biochemistry from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram. Before pursuing her MD in Biochemistry she has also worked in the field of Radiology all the while pursuing her D.M.R.E. but in an initiative for improvement of Medical education and research, she decided to pursue Biochemistry.
Dr. Rachna is a passionate and a decorated researcher and in her quest to improve and further medical research she has written many original articles and studies published in both national and international journals also while being the Editorial Secretary of the reputed JK Science: Journal of medical education.
Talking about her future goals for the department, she stated that she planned to start MD in Biochemistry under her charge as no government institute in J&K offers MD in Biochemistry and while talking about her personal goals in research and strengthening the patient care services in GMC, she wants to concentrate her efforts on upgrading the diagnostics being offered in the institute with the introduction of molecular genetics and screening of new born babies for inborn errors. She has big plans for the department and hopes to achieve all of them as the Head of the department.
