JAMMU, Mar 19: By operating an 80-year-old patient for both knee replacement, Dr Ranjit Singh, Senior Visiting Consultant at Apollo Hospital Amritsar and Prolife Hospital, Ludhiana, has proved that increased age and overweight cannot be a hindrance to successful knee replacement surgery.
Dr Ranjit Singh recently operated upon an 80-year-old patient Jaswant Singh, who underwent both knee replacement simultaneously with ‘Zero Error’ technique. His surgery was done flawlessly and with minimal blood loss by Dr Ranjit Singh at Apollo Hospital Amritsar.
The patient started walking mere 2 hours after surgery which was unbelievable for the entire family. The next day patient started walking comfortably without support with no visible pain. These miraculous results after knee replacement are possible only with ‘Zero Error’ technique.
Dr Singh said that the people often get fancied by Robotic knee replacement which sounds futuristic and more technologically driven but the fact remains that manual knee replacement has a success rate of 98% in 10 years and 95% in 20 years.
“With such a high success rate and clubbing with ‘Zero Error’ technique, it enjoys the minimum recovery benefits with several cost benefits too. The robotic knee surgery puts an extra cost to the patients and is more time consuming which is directly related to more complications whereas ‘Zero Error’ technique has minimum surgical time of 20 minutes from start to finish,” he added.
Dr Singh said that with the short surgical time and minimal muscle damage, the results of surgery are remarkable and quick. “The patient resumes walk within two-three hours of surgery with almost no visible pain and becomes capable of climbing stairs within few days,” he added.
Elderly patients or patients who are severely over-weight can also benefit almost equally as normal age and weight patients after knee surgery with ‘Zero Error’ technique of Dr Ranjit Singh. To his credit, he has more than 16,000 successful knee surgeries.
He was formerly working as Senior Consultant in Shalby Hospital Ahmedabad and Fortis Escorts Hospital Amritsar.
