JAMMU, Aug 17: Union Ministry of Health & Family welfare has nominated Dr T R Raina, Administrator Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, Ambphalla Jammu & former Professor Head Department of Blood Transfusion Govt. Medical College Jammu, as Technical Member of National Blood Cell (NBC).
The other members of National Blood Cell are Joint Secretary Drugs MHFW GOI, Joint Secretary Hospitals MHFW GOI, Joint Secretary Policy and NRHM Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Government of India, Secretary General Indian Red Cross Society, Secretary Health Government of Rajasthan, Secretary Health Government of Tamil Nadu, Secretary Health Government of Orissa, Director Controller General of India, Director National Institute of Biological New Delhi, Project Director SACS & MD NRHM Government of Uttarakhand, Joint Director SACS Government of Uttar Pradesh, Joint Director SACS Government of Haryana and Director Blood Bank Indian Red Cross Society Delhi.
The terms of reference of National Blood Cell is to achieve self sufficiency in safe blood and its products, to implement National Blood Policies & legislation consistent with WHO resolutions & recommendations, to restructure blood banking system in the country, to set up Blood Storage Centres, to develop guidelines for transportation of blood and to check and control unlicensed bleeding premises & to monitor the regulatory issues pertaining to National Blood Programmes.
First meeting of this Cell was held at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi under the chairmanship of Dr Arun Kumar Panda, Additional Secretary Health, Government of India and Mrs Vinita Srivastava as Consultant of NBC.
Dr Raina has been given this assignment in recognition of his services in the field of Blood Transfusion at the state as well as at the national level. He already stands nominated by the MHFW, GOI as Member of National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) & Expert Group on Voluntary Blood Donation at the national level.
