JAMMU, July 21: Dr Mrinalini Atrey has been unanimously elected as the new Secretary-General of the ICICH Bureau (International Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage).
ICICH is the International Scientific Committee of ICOMOS International with 121 members from 50 countries. The new bureau consists of president Angel Cabeza (Chile), vice-president Ana Lucia Gonzalez Ibanez (Mexico), vice president Oluwatoyin Sogbesan (Nigeria), secretary general Mrinalini Atrey (India) and treasurer Anna Yau (China).
Dr Mrinalini Atrey has more than 15 years of experience in the field of intangible cultural heritage with a focus on folk traditions, women, disaster management and mitigation. She also coordinates the India chapter of Association of Critical Heritage Studies and is an expert member on many national and international committees.
Her research on “Seasonal Migration Practices of Gujjars and Bakarwals: Case Study of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Climate Change from Upper Himalayas” is being published by UNESCO. Presently, she is teaching History at The Law School, University of Jammu.
