JAMMU, Mar 16: As the first Convocation of Central University Jammu is going to be held on March 18, the University students from 2011 to 2017 batches will be awarded 14 Ph D, 20 M Phil and 885 Post Graduate degrees besides 45 Gold Medals to the toppers of these batches in the presence of Nobel Laureate Dalai Lama, who will be chief guest on the occasion.

“On this occasion, to honour the distinguished public personalities of J&K State, the University is conferring Doctor of Philosophy degree (Honoris Causa) upon Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge), GoI, and General (Retd) Nirmal Chander Vij, former Chief of Army Staff,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor said that all arrangements with regard to the Convocation function have been finalized and the Chancellor CUJ will preside over the mega event, which is likely to be attended by prominent personalities and academicians besides parents of the students and members of the Central University.
On the occasion, Prof Ashok Aima also threw light on future plans of the CUJ, which was established under the Central Universities Act, 2009 and started functioning from 8th of August 2011. “Soon, the Central University will be functional from single campus at Rahya-Suchani (Bagla) in district Samba, We have 65 percent female students and 35 per cent of male students enrolled in 45 courses being offered by the University”, he said.
The VC said that in a short span of around six and half years, the University has been successful in recruitment of more than 75 percent of its approved faculty positions. “Also, nearly 100 percent vacancy in the Assistant Professor category has been filled. The faculty members are from 16 States across the length and breadth of the country”, he said and added that presently the University is offering 36 programmes under the aegis of 19 Departments, two Research Centres and one College (Community College, established in 2015).
In the press conference, the VC was accompanied by Registrar Dr Ravi Kumar, Head Department of Mass Communication and New Media Dr Govind Singh, Nodal Officer, University Media Cell, Dr Bachha Babu and other staff members of the University.
