NEW DELHI, June 8: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh convened here today a meeting of the Hindi Advisory Committee reconstituted by him under the auspices of Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) with the motive to promote the use of Hindi language in administration.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh said that, in spite of government’s emphasis on increased use of Hindi in official work, there still needs a lot to be done in this direction and this requires experimentation with new ideas and application of innovative strategies. Common colloquial Hindi used in routine conversation can be promoted to begin with, instead of insisting on difficult vocabulary which sometimes ends up becoming counterproductive.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, DoPT is a nodal department of Government of India and therefore also responsible for evolving reforms and strategies for other Ministries and Departments. But, he said, promotion of Hindi is an issue which is not only confined to the forewalls of office, but also has important social bearings. Often, he observed, many of us may insist on use of Hindi in the offices, but at home we are keen that our children should speak only in English. Unless such contradictions of mindset are overcome, it is difficult to make a headway, he added.
Stressing the need to promote the use of Hindi in regions like North-East and South India where it is not a common medium of language, Dr Jitendra Singh said, Hindi has the capacity to serve not only as a common medium of communication for whole country, but it also carries high stakes for youngsters who aspire for jobs in Corporate Sector and Multi-National Companies where knowledge of Hindi is given an additional weightage during selection.
As far as Government working is concerned, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the approach should be not to impose Hindi, but to inspire to voluntarily adopt Hindi for larger interest of administration and ease of governance.
Among the newly appointed members of the Advisory Committee who attended the meeting were Members of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Ramnarayan Dudi and Vasishta Narayan Singh, social activist R. P. Singh, journalist Naveen Kumar, Dashrath Singh Rathore, Suresh Tiwari, Swami Yajyanand Saraswati, Raghvenddhira and Abhishek Gupta. Also present were senior officers of Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) and Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (ARPG).
Meanwhile, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has approved the enhancement of budget from Rs.75 lakh to Rs. 1 crore to assist the training of the International level Shooter, Heena Sidhu for the forthcoming Olympics.

An advance amount will be released during June-August 2016 and this will also include financial support for attending two training camps in Germany in June and July respectively, as well as a Coaching Fee for “Pierre Beauchamp” for 40 days coaching.
