NEW DELHI, May 20: The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (ARPG) under the Union Ministry of Personnel has achieved record 95% grievance disposal rate.
This was disclosed here today by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh while personally making telephone calls, randomly, to different complainants in the presence of media persons.
This was part of a unique new practice started by the Minister about three months ago, wherein he personally calls up complainants at random for a reality check and verification of grievance redressal as well as to receive their feedback.
Among the complainants to whom Dr Jitendra Singh made phone calls was Azhar Hussain from Kolkata who had filed a grievance related to the issue of ATM card. Azhar profusely thanked the Minister for his unexpected personal response and early disposal of his grievance..
Another complainant whom Dr Jitendra Singh called up was Nidhi Tripathi, a youngster from Lucknow, who had issues regarding delay in the release of her UGC-JRF fellowship grant. She said, she had received her fellowship and it was very kind of the Minister to have personally called up.
Vijay Kumar Mittal, a senior citizen from Uttar Pradesh, was also called up by Dr Jitendra Singh to verify the redressal of his grievance regarding Senior Citizen Saving Scheme.
The Minister expressed happiness that young as well as senior citizens were taking keen interest in listing their grievances with the government. He also sought suggestions from complainants for improvement in redressal mechanism.
Dr Jitendra Singh further informed that the number of grievances being received had multiplied as much as five times in the last two years, thus depicting the faith of citizens in the redressal mechanism of the Modi government. The number of complaints was just about 2 lakh per year when this government took over and today it is nearly 10 lakh per year. He said, the monitoring of the grievance redressal rate is now being done every week and he personally obtains the figures of five working days falling in each given week.
