NEW DELHI, Aug 19: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today offered Rs. 40 lakh from his MPLAD (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) fund as contribution for development of a “Dreamland Park” in the Kathua city and said, more amount, if needed, could be spared at a later stage. He made this announcement when MLA Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia approached him with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed park. However, Jasrotia stated that the remaining cost of the project would be raised from other sources.
Dr Jitendra Singh, who is an elected MP from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha Constituency, said that Kathua District has achieved the unique distinction of having recorded several firsts at the All-India level and its progress report has been constantly on the rise ever since the parliamentary election of May 1994. In this context, he referred to over Rs.180 crore first inter-state bridge of Jammu & Kashmir coming up on river Ravi at Kediyan Gadyal, the North India’s first ever biotech park costing about Rs.90 crore, the country’s first Aarogya Gram project in Basohli and now a “state-of-the-art” Dreamland Park in Kathua city which will be unique of its kind in Jammu & Kashmir.
Kathua is perhaps the only district in the whole of J&K State,Dr Jitendra Singh said, which has three Kendriya Vidyalayas and one Navodaya Vidyalaya. In this context, he said, from this academic year, the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kathua town has been upgraded from Class ‘X’ to Class ‘XII’ and shortly, the work will start on the construction of a new building for the school.
Dr Jitendra Singh further said that with the liberal cooperation of the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) under Central Road Fund (CRF), several projects like the upgradation of road from Palli Morh to Narote up to Nagri and upgradation of road from Logate to Ghati are in the pipeline. In addition, proposals have also been submitted to the MoRTH for construction of a double-lane bridges near Nallah Sahar at Kothera and Kumbri.
Similarly, the Railway Ministry has been requested to expedite the project for building an alternate railway track and construction of a new railway station, he added.
