NEW DELHI, June 29: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh launched here today a new On-line Training Module for Government Officers.
Developed by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) in collaboration with UNDP, the new Module titled “COMMIT” (Comprehensive On-line Modified Modules on Induction Training) will supplement the existing 12-day Induction Training Programme (ITP) launched by DoPT soon after the Modi Government had taken over, with the purpose to inculcate and develop certain specific competencies.
Speaking after the formal launch, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Induction Training Programme launched in 2015 is meant for training the officials at the time of their entry into services under different State Governments. He said, the new on-line module “COMMIT” will use digital technology for value addition to the Government’s initiative to train officials working in various State Governments and at the same time, it will also make the administration more citizen-centric.
To begin with, Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that the “COMMIT” module will be implemented in the first phase, on pilot basis, in six States of Assam, Haryana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and West Bengal. Later, the same experiment will be replicated in other States as well, he added.
The major advantage of the new module launched today, Dr Jitendra Singh informed, was that while the induction training programme for State Government officials introduced by DoPT in 2015 had the capacity of offering training to approximately 10,000 officials per year, with the new hi-tech on-line version, the number of officials possible to be covered per year will go up to approximately 3.37 lakh which is a quantum jump that has been possible simply with the use of the latest hi-tech methods.
Calling upon the different State Governments to make the best use of this latest training module developed by DoPT, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the blended course being initiated from today offers the advantage of convenient on-line training while at the same time, retaining the benefits of face-to-face classroom experience as well.
Referring to series of innovative methods developed by DoPT in the last three years to enable the officers to perform to the best of their ability and to maximum potential, Dr Jitendra Singh hoped that the new initiative undertaken today will bring about a paradigm shift in the attitude of the cutting-edge government functionaries, particularly in the State Government services.
Union Secretary DoPT B.P. Sharma, Establishment Officer Rajeev Kumar, Marina Walters from UNDP, Joint Secretaries Jishnu Barua, Gyanesh Tripathi, Archana Verma and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
