NEW DELHI, May 4: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh formally launched here the e-Office of North Eastern Council (NEC) which has its headquarters at Shillong in Meghalaya.
The formal launching was ceremonized by submission of a file from the NEC headquarters in Shillong to the DoNER Minister’s Office in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, which was then duly approved for the holding of the next plenary meeting of the NEC this month.
Pertinent to mention that the Ministry of DoNER with its headquarters at Vigyan Bhawan here has already switched over to e-file working for the last almost one year and it was, in fact, the first Ministry in the Government of India to have done so.
The launching of e-office at Shillong was simultaneously witnessed by the DoNER Ministry officials at New Delhi through video conferencing. Soon after the DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh pressed the mouse to mark the formal launch, there was mutual clapping and exchange of good wishes between the officials sitting in Shillong office and those sitting in the New Delhi office. The officials sitting at the two ends also exchanged some lighter moments on real-time basis while sitting thousands of miles away from each other.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh said, keeping in tune with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “maximum governance, minimum government”, the Ministry of DoNER and the North Eastern Council have swiftly moved over to paperless office working. He complimented the officers in the Ministry and the NEC for having accomplished this and said, with the passage of time, as they gain more experience about it, they will feel more at home with this new pattern of working. This will also save lot of time and human resources, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, in the last three years, Northeast has witnessed fast-track development activities, particularly in the form of new roads, rail tracks, aircrafts and power projects.
Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may possibly be undertaking an exhaustive tour of North Eastern region during this month itself. He said, Modi is one of the rare Prime Ministers to have undertaken such frequent tours of the region, one after the other, in the past three years of his term. He said, such special interest shown by Prime Minister for regions of Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir, not only inspires a sense of belonging among the local people, but also keeps the administration on its toes with strict adherence to the timeline of completion of projects.
