NEW DELHI, Mar 3 : Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today inaugurated the new Administrative Block of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) complex in New Delhi.
The five storey new block will provide additional space for accommodating officers and staff attached with the Central Administrative Tribunal-Principal Bench in the Union capital.
Present on the occasion were, Chairman CAT, Justice L Narasimha Reddy, Secretary Department of Personnel & Training (DoP&T) C Chandramouli, President of CAT Bar Association Advocate Ajesh Luthra, Members of  CAT Tribunal, Advocates and DG CPWD Puneet Kumar Vats.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh congratulated CPWD for timely completion of the work thus making it possible to provide additional accomodation for the CAT headquarters to become functional. He also appreciated consistency and diligence with which the Members of CAT and Benches across the country have been  contributing for disposal of administrative and related disputes.
Dr Jitendra Singh, however, expressed concern over large number of appeals against CAT decisions being made in the higher courts which, he said, prolonged the judicial process and defeated the original objective of CAT, which was to expedite the entire process without the need to knock the doors of the High Court or the Supreme Court. He asked the Members of the CAT to suggest ways and means to overcome this issue.
Responding to the CAT Chairman’s reference to dearth of members in the Tribunal, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the government is aware of the matter and is constantly trying to fill the vacancies through appropriate appointments.
He also referred to the two new Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh where the jurisdiction of CAT has been extended to include even the non-Central Government services.
