SURAT (GUJARAT), Nov 15: Union Minister and BJP Election Sah-Prabhari (Co-Incharge) for Gujarat, Dr Jitendra Singh held an informal meeting here with the leaders of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CII), and discussed different issues relating to the trade and business community.
The meeting attended by President, Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry P M Shah, Vice President, Hetal Mehta and other office bearers, assumes significance in view of the upcoming Assembly poll.
The Chamber leaders expressed satisfaction about the manner in which the Modi Government had been flexible and open to inputs from the stakeholders, considering which, a number of modifications had been made in the GST structure. They also appreciated that, as of now, only about 50 items, which are of high luxury nature, figure in the 28% GST slab.
President Southern Gujarat CII, P M Shah conveyed that some of the earlier apprehensions and anticipations in the business community, particularly textile industry, have got addressed as a result of recent announcement made by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. He said, there are, however, certain other related issues, to discuss which, a delegation of Southern Gujarat Chamber is planning a visit to New Delhi early next week and sought the assistance and cooperation of Dr Jitendra Singh to put across their viewpoint.
Dr Jitendra Singh assured the Chamber leaders that the Modi Government is highly sensitive to the priorities and the concerns of every section of society, including trade community, and the recent modifications made in the GST bear a testimony to this. He said, in future also, due cognisance will be taken of the concerns and inputs expressed by them.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, he will make himself available at the national capital during the time when the Southern Gujarat CII leaders plan their visit, so that further follow – up may be carried out accordingly.
