Dr Bansi Lal’s Dogri books released

JAMMU, Oct 6: Two books of Dogri poetry, both authored by Dr Bansi Lal were released today in a function organized by Dogri Sanstha Jammu.
Book entitled ‘Samarpan Pattar’, is a collection of devotional poetry and ‘Uddhav Shatak’, is a verse to verse translation into Dogri of the original work of Sanskrit. Dr Bansi Lal has so far authored 10 Dogri books of high literary merit.
The function was presided over by Prof Lalit Magotra, president of Dogri Sanstha and Dr Arvinder Amn, additional secretary, JKAACL, Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion.
Prof Shashi Pathania, former Head of Dogri Department of Jammu University presented a very scholarly paper on the book ‘Samarpan Pattar’ highlighting the literary and poetic qualities of the book. She said that the book is a very valuable addition to Dogri literature, for its high poetic standard in the genre of devotional poetry.
Dr Nirmal Vinod, general secretary of Dogri Sanstha presented detailed views on the ‘Uddhav Shatak’. He said verse to verse translation from one language to another is a very tough and tricky job but Dr Bansi Lal has done it with scholarly ease which is very rare and speaks volumes of the poetic and linguistic genius of the translator.
Dr Arvinder Amn in his address said devotion is the most pious of human emotions and Indian literature is unique in having produced literature in this genre, in which almost all Indian languages are soul stirring and of highest poetic merit. He praised Dr Bansi Lal for enriching Dogri literature by his seminal contribution in this field.
Prof Lalit Magotra, in his presidential comments pointed out that the combination of inherent qualities of poetry and the emotion of complete surrender in devotion has produced some of the best works of literature, and Dr Bansi Lal’s work is a shining example of that. He said that Dr Bansi Lal’s poetry, whether original or translation, has a natural flow which is unmatched.
Dr Bansi Lal also recited few verses from both the books, which bore testimony to the laudatory comments, that speakers had made about his poetry.
Dr Chanchal Bhasin, secretary of Dogri Sanstha, presented vote of thanks whereas the program was conducted by Susheel Begana, the literary secretary of Dogri Sanstha.
