DPs stage demonstration

KATHUA, Jan 19: The displaced persons (DPs) of 1947 from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir held protest demonstration in support of their demands here today.
A large number DPs, under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee led by its president, S Gurdev Singh and district president Kathua, Bhushan Sharma assembled here and held protest demonstration during the day today.
They were demanding implementation of the package as per Joint Parliamentary Committee recommendation and reservation for their wards in Govt jobs and professional institutions besides other benefits as recommended by the JPC. After holding protest demonstration for some time near DC office, they submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner for the Prime Minister of India.
While speaking on the occasion, Gurdev Singh said that SAC is struggling for the legitimate rights of the DPs for the last over 50 years. Many times the SAC held protests and also submitted memoranda to the concerned authorities but their demands have remained unaddressed. He said though Rs 5.5 lakh package for the DPs was a good beginning but this can be considered as installment of the composite package. He urged upon the Union Government to address the package issue once for all and also include the left out families in the package.
Bhushan Sharma, Mohinder Singh, Harjeet Singh, Surinder Singh also spoke on the occasion.
