JAMMU, June 27: A joint meeting of Chhamb displaced persons of 1965 and 1971 was held here today with Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Shantmanu.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Jammu, who is also Nodal Officer for Chhamb Displaced persons. The meeting discussed the long outstanding problems and demands of the displaced persons.
The displaced persons of Chhamb were represented in the meeting by S R Nagial, the president of the Association along with other members of the Association and non camp DPs of 1971 who were represented by Khajoor Singh, Yudhvir Singh and Rashpal Singh.
The refugees demanded enhancement of rate per Kanal for the payment of cash compensation already paid to the Chhamb and the supplementary list as per the market rates, immediate sanction of funds for 463 families of DPS whose names are in the supplementary lsit of 1971.
They demanded sanction of Rs 25 lakh to each family as ex-gratia to all the Chhamb DPs of 1965 and 1971 living in camp and non camp areas, payment of cash compensation to the DPs families of Kartholi Basti and other families whose land has been acquired by SIDCO and BSF during the year 1999 or in the alternative allot agriculture land to these families and also forward the case to the PMO as desired by Prime Minister.
The meeting also demanded cash compensation/ rental payment for the land which has come under the Army/BSF occupation on the border area, grant of tenancy rights under section 3-A of the Agrarrian Reforms Act 1976, to Chhamb DPs of 1965 and 1971 on the evacuee land allotted to them as has been done in case of DPs of PoK 1947, separate allotment of funds to the landless and residential plotless families of 1971 and immediate disbursement of Rs 68 lakh to the non camp DPs of 1971 by DC Jammu.
