JAMMU, Oct 2: Displaced persons from Pak Occupied Kashmir (PoK) held a strong protest demonstration in support of their long pending demands at the Press Club here today.
A large number of members of the refugees including women, under the banner of PoK DPs’ Front Jammu and Kashmir (1947, 65, 71 and non-camp), led by Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib, (president) assembled at the Exhibition Ground near Press Club here today and launched protest demonstration. They were carrying banners and placards depicting demands. They also raised slogans in support of their demands and against Government for ignoring their pending issues.
Capt Chib while addressing gathering said that displaced persons are waiting since 1947 for the reddressal of their grievances but unfortunately both Central and State Governments have failed to address their issues. Politicians and the bureaucrats have been adopting dilly-delaying tactics and no corrective measures have been taken in this regard. Agitating for the last over six decades, the DPs have almost lost their patience and have now decided to resort to the hunger strike till death with effect from November 4, 2013.
The DPs have conducted so many seminars, convention, conducted innumerable meetings, held protest rallies, chain hunger strikes, made attempts to cross border, submitted memoranda to Prime Minister, Home Minister, Chief Minister, Revenue Minister and top bureaucrats for the redressal of their demands but all have fallen flat. Now, the DPs have resolved to launch `fast unto death strike’ from November 4. He said the displaced persons are demanding comprehensive settlement, with minimum Rs 25 lakh per family, ownership rights, registration of left out DP families, reservation in professional institutes and Govt jobs, issuance of ALC certificate to all DPs staying in the border areas etc.
Jai Pal Sharma, general secretary, Mahila president Sakandhya Devi and Kulbir Singh also spoke on the occasion and criticised the Government for its failure to resolve the issues of the displaced persons.
